Snip Download for Mac

The interactive demo

The app preview on the home page runs entirely in your browser on sample data that ships with the page. It does not read your disk, list your files, or send anything about your Mac to us. Reset or reload the page and everything returns to the sample state.

Website analytics

On Mac desktops only, the site sends a small anonymous beacon to our own server when a page loads and when the download button is used. Nothing is sent from phones, tablets, Windows or Linux.

Each beacon contains:

  • the page you were on
  • your browser's user-agent string (what browser and macOS version)
  • a random session token generated in your browser for this visit
  • an ad click ID, if you arrived from an X ad (see below)

Our server also records the IP address and country of the request. We use this to count Mac visits, to see which browsers people use, and to catch bots. There are no third-party analytics scripts, no fingerprinting, and no cross-site tracking.

Ads measurement

We advertise Snip on X. To measure whether those ads reach Mac users, two things happen, again only on Mac desktops:

  1. The standard X pixel loads and may set X's own cookies. X's handling of that data is covered by X's privacy policy.
  2. When you use the download button, our server may report that event to X's Conversions API. The report contains the click ID from the ad link (if any), your IP address and user-agent, and a random event ID. It never contains your name, email, or anything from the app.

We do not run pixels from Google, Meta, TikTok or any other ad network.

What we keep, and for how long

DataWhereRetention
Analytics beacons (page, user-agent, IP, country, session token, click ID)Our server, EU90 days, then deleted
Download events reported to XX Conversions APIPer X's retention policy
Ordinary web-server request logsHosting providerUp to 30 days

We don't sell data, don't share it with data brokers, and don't combine it with anything else.

Opting out

Any content blocker that blocks static.ads-twitter.com stops the X pixel. Blocking requests to /api/event.php on this domain stops our own beacons. The site works identically either way.

If you'd like us to delete analytics records tied to your IP address, email us with the approximate date and time of your visit.

The Snip app

This page covers the website only. The Snip application runs locally on your Mac and does not phone home. When the app ships, a separate notice will describe anything it does over the network, such as checking for updates.
